27TH AGC HOUSTON BARBECUE BRINGS ON THE FUN AND RAISES $10,000 FOR NEXTOP

The Houston commercial construction industry came together at the Sam Houston Race Park for the annual Barbecue Cook-Off and Fair March 22 and 24, 2018. Thirty six cook teams competed in categories that included best theme and best hospitality, crawfish, margarita, salsa, open dish, ribs, brisket, and chicken. During the two-day event cook team raised funds for NextOp, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that connects military leaders to construction industry careers. Prior to the awards ceremony on Saturday, AGC Houston President, CEO Jerry Nevlud, presented $10,000 to John Boerstler, Executive Director.

On Friday night, teams hosted bands and djs under their tents and competed for crawfish, margarita and salsa. Team pit masters worked overnight to ensure the fires were fueled to smoke their entries. On Saturday, Families filled the Kids’ Zone, which featured carnival rides, face painting and a kiddie train. Cook-team members and volunteers helped to judge all the entries during both days.

This year, AGC Houston recognized Lance Smith, Tribble & Stephens Construction, with the Ralph Morton Spirit Award to thank him for his invaluable service on the Barbecue Cook-Off Committee. Congratulations also to Overall Grand Champion EyeSite Surveillance, Inc. for receiving the Grand Champion Award and to Cadence McShane Construction for winning the Reserve Champion Award.
