Midyear Meeting Recognizes Excellence In Safety

AGC Houston celebrated safety professional dedicated to creating a safe work environment at the Midyear Safety meeting on June 14 at the Junior League of Houston. Close to 300 members  attended the meeting which recognized the Safety Excellence Award recipients and featured guest speakers U.S. Congressman Dan Crenshaw and Tony Militello, Director of Occupational Safety and Health for the Dept. of the Navy.  

During the event, Director of Safety Services Kim Mason recognized the AGC Houston Safety Committee leaders, companies that took part in the annual Safety Stand-Down and  veterans in construction. She also gave an overview of issues and policies the construction industry faces and topics that the Safety Committee tackles.

Safety excellence Awards recognize companies and individuals who demonstrate leadership in safety management and for the development and implementation of superior safety practices. 
Representing the people of Texas's Second Congressional District., Rep. Dan Crenshaw spoke about his first term in Washington, D.C. and current issues he is focusing on. A military hero, Rep. Crenshaw served in the U.S. Navy SEALS teams for 10 years. He left the military service with two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart medal, and the Navy Commendation Medal with Valor and was medically retired in 2016.

Special guest Tony Militello, PE, CSP, Director, Occupational, Safety and Health, Department of the Navy, highlighted the Occupational Safety and Health Program and compared its mission and focus to the commercial construction industry. As the senior Dept. of the Navy career occupational safety and health civilian, Mr. Militello also manages the Department's Civilian Safety Professional Community.

AGC Houston Safety Award Winners

Peterson Beckner Industries won in the Small Specialty Contractor Category – under 200,000 man hours. 

Big City Access won in the Large Specialty Contractor Category – over 200,000 man hours.

Tony Stergio,  Andrews Myers, PC received the Affiliate/Associate Award, which  is designed to recognize non-contractor members who are engaged in and dedicate their resources to the promotion of keeping workers safe. 

Robert Brown, Safety Director for Camarata Masonry Systems, Ltd. received the Ray Lambright Excellence in Safety Award, which recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and a personal commitment in directing their company’s safety and health program in advancing the safety of all construction workers.
