Safety Stand Down
AGC Houston and the Safety Committee are pleased to announce that the 2017 Safety Stand Down will take place during May 8-19, 2017
. Since 2015, AGC Houston has aligned its Safety Stand-Down program with OSHA - and extended it one additional week. Last year, more than 120 AGC Houston member companies—representing over 14,000 construction workers—took part in safety talks and demonstrations across the Houston footprint.
For the past 14 years, Houston members have been key supporters of the event - leading safety performances at the city, state and national levels.
This will be the second year that general contractors and specialty contractors will conduct the Safety Stand-Down during a two-week period. In 2015, AGC Houston saw dramatic increases in participation throughout our members' josbsites due to the extension of time.
According to AGC Houston Director of Safety Services Kim Mason, “We wanted to extend the Safety Stand-Down so that more construction workers would be exposed to safety demonstrations across our members’ area jobsites. We also wanted to support OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down, which focuses on fall protection. This is a great way to expose construction workers to the common hazards of a jobsite, particularly related to falls. Several of our members who are safety consultants will volunteer their services to lead demonstrations with fall protection gear, ladders, and test dummies on job sites across the city.”
